James Grunig, Ph.D.

James Grunig is Professor Emeritus of the University of Maryland. He has written dozens of articles and books, as well as received many awards and decorations including four Doctor Honoris Causa in the University of Quebec at Montreal, Istanbul University (Istanbul, Turkey), University of Bucharest (Bucharest, Romania), and Universidad San Martin Porres (Lima, Peru).

James Grunig earned his Ph.D. in Mass Communication in the University of Wisconsin in 1968. Since then, he has advanced the knowledge in theory of public relations, including his work in excellence in public relations and management of public relations. He is also member in the Commission on Public Relations Measurement and Evaluation of the Insitute of Public Relations, member of Arthur Page Society, among many other organizations.

Some of his honors include the Festschrift in honor of James E. Grunig and Larissa A. Grunig held in Bled, Slovenia; Grunig and Grunig award for outstanding Ph.D. dissertation and Master’s thesis by the Public Relations Division of the International Communication Association; or the Grunig Fellowship for research awarded by PRIME Research US . His achievements and work go beyond the academic field, since he has worked as a consultant to Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, consultant to the U.S Department of Energy, among many others.
